Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/11/2015

Number: 3

One monarch was observed feeding on the butterfly bush by our school nurse's office at about 10 AM. 2 monarchs were seen flying at roof level 15 minutes later. Fifth grade students noted the butterflies during their art class, while drawing the plants outside the school. At first we weren't sure if the flying butterflies were monarchs or viceroys, but the school science teacher, Mrs. Garland, explained how to identify monarchs by their flight pattern as well as the markings on their wings.
