During a 3 hour walk on the beach between Fire Island Pines and the Fire Island National Wilderness Area, I counted 116 Monarchs. A cold front had come through Sunday morning, and there was a stiff breeze out of the north. All of the Monarchs were flying west along the axis of Fire Island, most along the dune line, but some along the beach.
