Single male Calliope Hummingbird on feeder. Detection: visual, distance 2 feet! 5 total hummingbirds observed at feeder during the pre-dawn rush. These were presumed Broad-tailed Hummingbird females. Feeder concentration is i part table sugar to 1 part distilled water. Feeders soaked and scrubbed in dilute acid weekly. At 7th day: no fungal colonies palpable or visible; and no sour odor. Feeders hung in moderate shade from 2 feet of vaselined wire. Nightly low 50F, high 80F; few nectaring flowers blooming. Feeding station 29 years old with tap water pond. Black-chinned and rare Broad-tails are presumed the only local breeders in early summer.
