Two male Ruby-throat hummingbirds have been hanging around since their arrival Aug. 26, and departed this morning to continue their migration south. After some fights between themselves, each staked out a "territory" in part of the back yard and would spend much of the day perching on a nearby tree, guarding one or more of our feeders and/or bushes (trumpet vine, hibiscus, etc) from other hummers. Hummer fights were almost non-stop thes days.
