Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/24/2015

Number: 1

Today's 5th grade drawing students spotted what they thought were two monarchs coming toward our butterfly garden. The first to land was a beautiful monarch. The second was obviously smaller in size and, from its "flitting" flight pattern the students realized even before it landed that it was a viceroy! They were able to observe the two species nearly side-by side as they fed on several of our butterfly bushes for nearly 10 minutes before flying away.
