Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/27/2015

Number: 1

Monarch migration definitely later this year. Numbers at hawkwatches along Lake Ontario and Erie on the decline. At Detroit River H.W., 184 on Sept. 26 and 62 on September 27. At Breslau, west of Toronto, Captured a few migrants that dropped into the New England aster in the Monarch Waystation. Even captured two by hand! Sturdy, pristine migrants. Spotted one newly emerged migrant excrete liquid as it flew off. Weather all week was great and FINALLY, great weekend weather. Cool mornings with heavy dew, but afternoon today up to about 73 F. Looking ahead, cooler more seasonal weather is on the way. Spotted one female laying eggs on tropical milkweed but have no way of knowing if it was a wild or reared individual.
