Only saw one adult Ruby Throat female this morning (but was out all afternoon,) but numbers are definitely down...much less nectar disappearing from the feeders. The female first hit the few remaining white althea bush flowers and the few red buckeye tree flowers (confused trees) that are out before moving to the feeders. She returned to the althea bush for a second try before leaving to the east.
Sad to see the hummingbirds go...it will be a long winter without them to brighten my days. Emptied, cleaned and refilled feeders today, but put two of the four feeders away for the season. Sigh.
