Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/30/2015

Number: 250

Approximately 5 pm tonight (9/30), I observed 4-5 monarchs but then they kept coming. At one time, there were 28 on a branch. Some would fly up 400 ft and glide in se direction. At 6:41 all activity stopped and they settled in a juniper and locust tree to spend the night. We will try to get photo tomorrow (10/01).

The nectar source would be our garden flowers including goldenrod, sedum, asters. They also were very attracted to our 30 tomato, plants.

48 degrees was last night's temperature.

The wind was dead calm when they arrived and then a slight breeze from south. They were located on both the west and south side of the house so they were really not protected.
