It was a dark, chilly, rainy morning and a female hummer was already on the feeder outside the living room window when I opened the shutters before sunrise. It was in the low 50s so I put out some warm 4 to 1 nectar. I later watched her perch on a twig, puffing herself up and fluttering her wings as the rain hit her. She did this for a couple of hours only leaving the perch to get nectar from the feeder. I was able to get a picture...you can see rain drops on her beak. Later around noon she was chasing another hummer, there were no lithe agile moves. They must be at their migration weight, they looked like two blimps and were flying slower then normal. All this while another hummer watched from a nearby feeder. The feeders were a priority today not the flowers. They sure kept me entertained on this rainy day.
