Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/01/2015

Number: 2

Two female ruby throated hummingbirds have trailed the migration. They are still here in my yard at the feeders. Like others have reported, they were at the feeder often yesterday and simply resting in a Rose of Sharon bush for much of the late afternoon. It was cloudy and dark, temperatures in the mid 50'sF, windy. The male from the summer left a few weeks ago and these two appeared to have disappeared shortly thereafter, but returned. I'm assuming that they are the same individuals as they are perching on the same branches and displaying the the same territorial behaviors with each other as they have throughout the season. I changed their nectar as it was in need of freshening and have not seen either today. Colder, rainier and windier than yesterday. The noreaster is upon us with the hurricane holding it in place. Good luck to them both.
