Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/29/2015

Number: 2

We were in Duluth, walking the boardwalk along Lake Superior, when we saw the first monarch, a male. The temperature was almost 60 degrees, so flying must have been hard. He finally landed in a sunny spot out of the wind where I could get a some photos of him. Later, at the "rose garden" we saw one more monarch, this one a female. I don't think their chances of survival and making the migration are too great; the temperatures in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota have been into the 30s at night and just into the 60s during the day. Of course, the winds have been mostly south or easterly after the 29th..........
It's possible that these might be the last monarchs I will see this year. I keep looking in all of my travels around Osceola and the surrounding areas, but have not seen another monarch here since the 27th or 28th.
Thanks to all who have reported on Journey North/South this year. Keep up the good work.
