ARABIA MOUNTAIN NATIONAL HERITAGE AREA.
It was a cool, windy day and the monarchs were stopping to feed on the Confederate Daisies that mostly grow on rocky outcrops in this area. The daisies were in full bloom so the butterflies were lingering - probably also to enjoy a respite from the buffeting wind. We personally only saw about 20 Monarchs but given the size of Arabia Mountain there were probably a lot more passing through. in 2012 we watched hundreds fly over the mountain one warm, windless afternoon!
