Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 10/02/2015

Number: 7

During the past two weeks I have found 6 good sized cats on potted milkweed plants on my patio. One actually made it to chrysalis stage but came to a bad end. The others have wondered off after eating most of the potted milkweed. There is one remaining but I think he will be gone by morning. I still have two on a milkweed in the garden; one about 1/16 of an inch and the other about 3/4 of an inch. I do not know what instar they are. The problem in the garden seems to be there are a number of insects looking for a snack and I can't keep them away. Today I did find a large grasshopper out there whom I dispatched to another area quickly. None of the eggs I have found in my garden have come to fruition. I think I will plant more milkweed in pots next year.
