Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/01/2015

Number: 1

Arrived around 6:45PM at the tip. Strong, gusty northeast winds up to 50 km all day. Partly cloudy when we arrived. 15C Many small songbirds, one kingfisher and a hungry Cooper's Hawk (hunting) sheltering on the leeward side of the Point. Not a monarch to be seen. With these winds I am curious as to whether they would allow themselves to be carried across Lake Erie or if they would shelter. As of the writing of this report on Saturday at 6:00PM, we have had 3 days and nights of sustained strong winds from the northeast starting on Thursday with sun and deteriorating to rain early this afternoon. Currently rainy, gusty winds and 13C. Overnight tonight forecast for 8C. Will not head back to Pelee until the weather and/or wind improves.
