Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/04/2015

Number: 2

The migrant that arrived 09/29 is still here,in spite of continuous rain (often heavy) since the afternoon of 09/30. I have not been able to tell if this hummer is a juvenile male or a female. It has been noticeably growing plumper since its arrival, and concentrates on the feeder that I have outside my kitchen window. I have not seen it visit any of my other feeders or my potted plants. Today a second migrant arrived, and began visiting both the feeder outside the kitchen window, and the feeder and the streptocarpella and mandevilla flowers on the deck. This hummer is definitely a juvenile male, with light streaking on his throat. This afternoon he flew in to eat from a feeder when I was reaching towards it. I froze and was able to observe him at the close range of about six inches for several minutes before he flew away.
