Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/05/2015

Number: 1

She was nectaring already at the feeder at 6:56am when I opened the living room shutters. It was 49 degrees, wind NE at 8 MPH. I hurried and put out some warm nectar. Sunrise was at 7:06am, she came back for that warm nectar, and lingered as the sun began shinning on her and the feeder. The first sun we had seen in five days. She perched a long time looking at what was around her, not the usual darting of head back and forth, she was really taking it all in. I had seen this exact behavior before, last year on October 12th, when a migrant female RT hummer (who I dubbed Tiny Dancer) had graced our garden for a week. I had been wondering if this was the same bird because her demeanor was exactly the same as last years...but seeing what she did today, I knew for sure it was Tiny Dancer. Amazing she had found my garden again. So I knew what was coming, it was a perfect day for it, she took off heading south. I was able to get a picture of her at 7:21am just minutes before she left on her long journey. GodSpeed to that little gem, may she find safe havens and fresh nectar on her way. Hope to see another migrant, but if not, it sure was a fantastic season.
