Saw two monarchs today in our backyard after many days without seeing any (we had VERY strong northeast winds here from Sept 29 to Oct 4). The first came about 1 pm and rested briefly on our spruce tree; looked like a male. The second arrived about 3:50 pm and rested in a neighbor's fir tree for about half an hour before leaving; it looks like a female (see photo).

Weather: north wind 5 mph, temperature low 70s.
