Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/08/2015

Number: 23

Out of the 50+ eggs laid on my milkweed I counted up to 23 larva that had hatched and I stopped counting. There could be more. They are quite small at this point, so I will wait 2 weeks to get a more accurate count. The biggest point of info that I could give on these larva is that all but 2 were found at the top of the milkweed feeding where the next generations of young flowers and leaves were forming. My plants have up to 7 stages of new flowers forming on the top of the plants. So no matter where the egg was laid on the milkweed the larva migrated to the top of the plant for either more tender leaves or less amount of toxic sap from the plant. They are smart!!!
