Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/08/2015

Number: 50

In the gulf we passed 3 species but monarch was one. They were on the water between mainland and the barrier islands.

I was told they were monarchs. They were all over the water between mobile bay and biloxi. All day we just keep seeing individuals flying by so 50 was an estimate. We were taking water samples at multiple stops so I couldn't tell you exact wind at the time I saw each one. They were all flying past us as we were headed east to mobile bay (dauphin island) the biologist we were with said they were monarchs, sulfars? And I don't remember the third, it was solid orange or red. They landed on the water every now and then and would take off. No photo due to the gleam on the water. This was from 9am until 3pm.
