Hello! Our Lady of the Greenwood third grade students successfully planted two bags of the Red Emperor tulip bulbs. We selected the area around the school sign and an area around the entrance following the guidelines. We hope to see the tulips next spring. Unfortunately, last year, we had a problem with squirrels and geese who ate some of the bulbs, but we were able to see half of the tulips bloom. The weather in Indiana has been very warm and dry. After using a shovel to break up the hard dirt, students jumped in using tulip bulb planters and spades to dig the holes, put in the tulip bulbs pointed side up, and then cover the holes with dirt and mulch using small hand rakes. Other students carefully watered the bulbs, but we really need a nice steady rain. Since each student had a special job, all were involved in the process. When we came in, the students saw the assistant principal in the hall and told her what they had accomplished in 30 minutes. They have started a legacy of giving back to the school and supporting science!!
