Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/10/2015

Number: 1

After no sightings for a few days, I saw one lone monarch in my garden seeking nectar from a variety of plants lingering in bloom. Available New England asters are relatively few now, but there are plenty of small white asters, Verbena bonierensis, some Cosmos, and ONE tropical milkweed along with other randoms. Several of these sources were visited for a short time, except for the tropical milkweed where more than 5 minutes were spent siphoning nectar from each separate flower. Then there was a tour of other available flowers and the butterfly returned to the tropical milkweed for another visit, before flying off in a southerly direction.
