Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 10/12/2015

Number: 2

In the half-acre pesticide-free oasis of the Miramar Community Garden, I spotted a huge butterfly flitting about that turned out to be two monarchs connected - I've never had the chance to witness the mating behaviors of a monarch before, but it was truly wonderous to watch the alternating wings open and close, and the periodic flight together from one branch to another. I am left to wonder, how much of the lives of these gentle creatures are spent engaged in such activity! Thankful to witness this miracle of survival, resistance and continuity.
