Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2015

Number: 12

We represent a small group of students from the Woodhull School in Ocean Beach New York. We are in grades 3 and 4. Today we visited with a local monarch butterfly expert here on Fire Island. While there, we saw about 12 monarch butterflies in a cage. They were captured from a local garden. They are being tagged to help researchers collect data on monarch migration. Each of us watched as the expert tagged the butterflies. We were each given on butterfly and on the count of three, we released them all at once.
