Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 10/13/2015

Number: 1

Monarch Waystation #271 reports finding 1 35mm long 5th instar on the tropical milkweed growing in my front yard around 5 pm. Just when the last caterpillar had formed it's pupae indoors and I'd thought I was done feeding caterpillars for the year....[sigh]. Luckily I still have some milkweed left for this one. Bringing it in to rear, night time temperatures are forecast to fall below the 50s as cold fronts approach, and that means they will stop eating until it gets warm each morning. Hoping there will be time to migrate south before the cold catches up with it.
