Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/15/2015

Number: 5

I went to check on all feeders after viewing humming birds feeding near kitchen window. My heart stopped when I viewed one at a feeder that appeared to be caught in some way but when I observed closely I found that it was clutching a tiny perch and was hanging upside down and it was shivering though the low temperature for the day was 56 F in our area. I made short videos and shot photos and turned on some flood lights near the bird to warm the air. After a while it blinked an eye. Another hummingbird buzzed me in attempt to get me to go away from feeder. It can be seen in one of my videos. As it threatened me I could see some red under neck so I know it was a young male. The shivering of the little bird caused the liquid in the feeder to shake. At near 10 a.m. the shivering hummingbird dropped from the perch and flew awaaaaaay. I never expected to view this in my lifetime. I would like to hear of other people's experiences like this.
