After 2-3 nights of near and below freezing (28-36 degrees) found 4 monarch caterpillars alive! Monarchs were found on the ground in a groundcover (near but not on milkweed). Brought larva into greenhouse, 3 have enclosed, and one is munching away. Initially caterpillar seemed darker in color than ones typically found - possibly affected by cooler temperatures?
