Following the recovery of a southern Oregon-tagged Monarch at Aptos, CA that I reported a few days ago, I have a second recovery to announce!
A male Monarch reared, tagged and released by inmates at the Washington State Penitentiary at Walla Walla on September 8 was sighted on October 21 by Regena Orr at Morro Bay State Campground! This is a straight-line distance of at least 775 miles!
I'm sure the inmates who reared this Monarch will be thrilled to hear about this recovery, just as I am, since it adds a valuable data point to our growing set of data on Monarch migration in the Pacific Northwest!
