Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 10/25/2015

Number: 6

Brings the total to approximately 20 over the last two weeks. We have brought half inside and take them back out to a butterfly cage when they start their "walkabout" behavior. the other half has been left loose in the garden. We tend to lose track of these free range Monarchs when they go looking for a place to go into their pupal stage so it is difficule to calculate the survival rate. So far as we can tell one has died in each population but two are missing outside while three of the inside larvae have entered the pupal stage. These were moved outside onto potted milkweed plants in the butterfly cage when they were ready to transform into pupa.
