Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/28/2015

Number: 20

Altus and I have been doing a measured ten mile route from Port Lavaca, across the Lavaca Bay Causeway, then along both sides of the Lavaca Bay Causeway peninsula, and back. We made two trips of 45 mins. each on Tues, 10/27/15, and had a total of 41 monarchs counted for the day in the Coastal Flyway. We made one trip on Wed, 10/28/15, of 41 mins. and had a total count of 20 monarchs. Wind has been light out of WNW to WSW, very windy Monday, midday temp 80 dF, clear. Most of the monarchs have been flying on a rapid, dedicated path to the SW, but at a low altitude approaching Lavaca Bay ... a very few stopping to nectar on the peninsula.
