Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 10/26/2015

Number: 4

In the center bed of the Virginia Living Museum's Children's Learning Garden, four 4th instar monarch caterpillars were found feeding on Tropical Milkweed. They were brought in to rear for later tagging and release. One of the caterpillars, by the end of the day, shed its skin to become a 5th instar. The others shed and became 5th instars the next day. They are being fed a mix of Tropical or common milkweed as available. VLM is proud to be Monarch Waystation #299. These should be the last ones of the season.
