Virginia Living Museum Horticulture staff member Grace reported seeing a monarch butterfly in the Children's Learning Garden to Education staff this morning. By the time I got the message, I got to the garden @ 1 pm with a net and tags. There were TWO freshly emerged monarchs, a male and a female, and I tagged both. Being a rainy day, and they were so newly emerged, they stayed on the Tithonia I placed them on & attempted to bask at least in the direction of the sun. It was spitting rain, cloudy, about 60 degrees F. Monarch Watch Tags ULG657 male & ULG658 female.
