When I think of the butterflies, when I hear stories or watch them transform from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly and hold their precious little bodies on my hand I feel tears. Why? I think it is because the butterfly represents the highest than can be achieved, also by the human soul. It represents freedom, beauty, love and the very essence of warm sunlight itself. And the struggles Monarchs go through, the dangers, accidents and death are what we humans are going through ourselves and are indeed DOING to ourselves and the rest of all living creatures. The care for the life of a Monarch is learning to care again, to become responsible towards Mother Earth. Many of us have lost the ability to have compassion. Monarchs allow us to find it again. I am grateful.
