Between the buterfly cage and the garden there are now about 14 chrysalises and 17 larvae in my backyard. These are all from eggs laid in the garden. About 20 caterpillars were moved indoors and placed into containers until their 4th or 5th instar then were transfered into the cage and another 20 were left loose in the garden. So many of the free ranging caterpillars were disappearing we started moving them into the cage during their 4th or 5th instar. Some of these caterpillars are huge. They will all be released when they are ready to fly.
