Observed a monarch Nov 2nd around 10:40 am flying SE above Seacliff Rd, Leamington, Ont. Temp was 13c/55°f with full on sun and light breeze. I had just driven past Lake Erie & it was calm; very light breeze out of SW. I thought to myself 'the monarchs today will cross that (calm lake) even without a northerly wind. Individual Monarchs had been seen prior day, west of Point Pelee (Canada's most southern mainland point) in various small towns along Lake Erie's north shore- Harrow, Holiday Beach, and northeast of here in Chatham.
A resident of Pelee ISLAND, Canada's most southern location, reported to me that she observed a monarch at FishPoint, Canada's most southern point, fluttering south out over Lake Erie towards Ohio, U.S. (proving my thought above!) I am aware of monarchs being released Nov 2nd, northeast of here in Hamilton & Ancaster, Ontario. This week's great temps of almost 21/70 should get them south across the lake & on their way to Mexico!!
