I stopped by a friend's house to drop off some milkweed seed. As I walked through his yard, a female monarch suddenly lifted up from his native wildflower/grass patch and fluttered around me and my son. Alas, nothing in bloom, all gone to seed. I caught her by hand, and poured some bottled water on the driveway, then placed her down to feed. She sipped a little. I did not have anything sweet with me to drink, sigh. I resorted to pouring water over a Kind coconut/chocolate/nut bar, and she fed from that for a few minutes. Oh poor thing, I hope she can find some nectar.
