Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 11/06/2015

Number: 4

I brought in a potted milkweed Oct. 23, 2015. 3 caterpillars made their chrysalis on it, so I took the plant to Llano Texas, where the threat of freezing weather is postponed for a few weeks.

While there, I discovered 4 small monarch caterpillars on the plant--they looked about 7-10 days old. (By Sunday, 2 had doubled in size.) The eggs had to have been laid around Oct. 23, making them 9-10 days old if, as eggs, they had hatched in 3 days. I had not seen any monarchs since Oct. 20th or so.
