Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 11/10/2015

Number: 1

Found a fifth instar caterpillar on a gravel path. It must have tried to find somewhere to form a chrysalis but the temperature was dropping & it was just curled up, motionless. I thought it was dead, but I picked it up and breathed warm air on it for a few minutes & it started to move around after about 1/2 hour. I brought it home & it's currently a chrysalis in my kitchen. I plan to release it when it emerges around Thanksgiving. This is the only monarch (egg OR caterpillar OR adult) that I've seen so far this fall.
