Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/29/2015

Number: 7

This will be my last report for this season. Our peak has already past. Yesterday afternoon we had 7 monarchs eating on the butterfly bush when we arrive home after work. Calm winds temp around 82 and party cloudy.

Some observations from the season:

Males / Females 4 to 1 ratio
Very healthy looking with great bright color
Did not see any monarchs with torn wings
Did not see any tagged monarchs
Did eat mostly off the butterfly bush and some milkweed
Groups would fly in eat and fly off to the SW did not stay around for long periods
Had small roosts each night

Based on the cooler and wetter than normal summer in the Midwest / Great Lakes I do wonder it the monarchs had an over supply of food along the 1-35 corridor this year resulting in short stops. To all monarch lovers in OK and TX we are passing the torch to you and wishing you god speed in getting these beautiful specis down to Mexico safely. A cold front is pushing through the Midwest tonight with strong winds so the numbers down south should pick up tomorrow. Until next year, thanks to all who posted wonderful reports and pictures. Look forward to reading new posts.
