Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 12/04/2015

Number: 1

A friend has had a hummingbird visiting her feeder since early November or October.

An experienced birder told her it is a rufous hummingbird that was blown off its course and now is hanging around her place for the sugar water.

Our weather in Western NY has been very mild and this pattern will continue for another week. We are worried about this vagrant hummer once the weather turns cold and snowy.

Today, I visited her place to take a photo of the hummer.

This bird is very healthy looking and fast. It is also very nervous and will fly away quickly if it sees someone in the house who is close to the viewing window.

I had to crouch down below the window to get the photo I am submitting.
