Bald Eagle

Date: 12/31/2015

Number: 1

I was walking my dogs at Joaquin Miller Park in the Oakland foothills at approximately 3:15 p.m. on December 31st (2015), when I noticed a bird coming in my direction a few yards away. I followed it with my eyes for just a few seconds when it flew directly over me (approximately 50' above me), when I realized it was an bald eagle. It was gliding pretty slowly. I was so stunned at the idea that I never considered taking out my phone to take a photo until after it passed. When I got home, I looked up the crazy possibility that I actually saw a bald eagle in Oakland, California, and found that they have been seen in the Lake Chabot regional park area as well as near the San Pablo reservoir, both within 10 miles of Joaquin Miller Park. It was an amazing experience (albeit very short)!!
