We received our tulip bulbs from Thanksgiving Point and the students in our learning village planted their bulbs today. Prior to our planting day, some students, teachers and parents met on a Saturday to prepare the soil. We can't wait until spring comes to Mana Academy and the beautiful tulips emerge! We look forward to caring for our tulip test garden once the winter season is over. Our learning village is called Kuleana, which in Hawaiian means "responsibility". We feel it is our responsibility to take care of our environment and to beautify our environment through a conscious effort, both individually and collectively. We chose to participate in this citizen scientist tulip test garden because we are excited to be a part of a global science project that can provide data about climate trends. We also wanted to do something as a group of students and teachers to improve our elementary campus by planting these tulips this school year. It will be our school's first garden planted and nurtured by students from Kindergarten, First Grade, Third Grade and Sixth Grade classes.
