Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 01/15/2016

Number: 14

I made the 4 hour round trip migration to MLAC, SARA milkweed patch, and SABOT looking for monarchs on Friday. Here is what I found.

MLAC - I casually inspected 8 plants and found 2 eggs, one 2nd instar and one 3rd instar. Saw 2 queens, but no monarch adults in flight.

SARA at Quincy and Schiller - looked at 16 rogue plants not inside the formal bed but on the other side of the sidewalk from the pavilion going down and found one 3rd instar. Saw no monarch or queen adults. The milkweed stubs had little to no re-growth.

SABOT - without even touching the plant I observed 8 fourth and/or fifth instars munching away on the milkweed. Saw one adult monarch, but since my first goal is to chase monarchs without falling down, I did not achieve by second goal of catching the monarch. So I did not get to tape it.
