Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 02/12/2016

Number: 40

Robins overwinter here in Northern Virginia, in spite of the subfreezing temperatures.

Robins forage on the ground for worms, insects, and seeds.

When snow covers the ground, robins eat holly and mock orange berries. Robins will not touch these berries if the ground is not snow covered.

Robins do not come to bird feeders.

I did see two birds in February that are signs of spring, a female bluebird and a brown thrasher.

The brown thrasher feeds at my suet feeder and was here today.
