At Colvin Run E.S. in Vienna, VA, we saw our tulips emerge for the first time on Friday, February, 19th. After many weeks of cold and snow, the snow is mostly melted and the temperatures are warming up. It is 36’F. We viewed 7 of our 120 tulips popping up. We were surprised that the shoots were reddish. Our sprouts ranged between .5 to 2.5 centimeters. The class who first viewed the bulbs emerging are pictured in our garden. Notice the mounds of plowed snow still present in the background.
