Cardinal singing his spring song! I was outside in my suburban neighborhood just before dawn filling my bird feeders. All winter, the cardinals have been the first to arrive to dine and they alert me to their presence by their chipping calls. Today, though, I heard the at first tentative, and gradually, stronger, spring song. Also heard the singing the next day (Tuesday, Feb. 23).
