Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 02/20/2016

Number: 1

After having a milkweed garden and raising Monarchs for the past ten years, this is the first February that I did not have ANY eggs, catepillars or butterflies. In Feb.I am usually begging for milkweed to feed cats. Not this time. I released 13 adult Monarchs the first week in Feb.But the easterly winds blew hard. One male stayed for two weeks and we only saw him on the few afternoons feeding when the sun was out.All month the Weather played a huge role-night temps in the 40's, daytime highs below 65,very few days 70 or above, high winds daily-some over 35mph for sustained periods, torrential downpours and rain for days, tornados, the works.. not good for butterflies of any sort. The worst Feb ever in my butterfly life.Usually we have butterflies-all kinds- not this year.....Hope others had better luck.
