Red-winged Blackbird (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 03/04/2016

Number: 1

We are about 1 mile from the Blackstone River and occasionally see them down there in some of the marshier areas. Generally, though, we only see them in areas that have tall reeds. I'm working from home today and HEARD them. I've NEVER seen one in our backyard (and we've lived here for 20 years!) and I looked out my window and saw a FLOCK of about 20 on the ground looking through the pile of sunflower shells left by the squirrels and birds from the feeder above. I'm attaching a photo--it's not the best quality, but you can just make out the strips of yellow on their wings. Just goes to show that there is always something new to enjoy in nature--SO COOL!!!!!
