On DesertLeps@yahoogroups.com famous California lepidopterist Ken Davenport reported: "Monarch (Danaus plexippus): Female ovipositing on milkweed at Ant Canyon and another (sex undetermined) going upslope at Calkin’s Flat."

Ant Canyon is a little north of Kernville, Calif. in the Sierra foothills northeast of Bakersfield, Calif. The only milkweed that has emerged from the ground this early in the season is Asclepias californica
