All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 03/16/2016

Number: 1

Red admiral spotted today in this National park. It is a record-early sighting of Red Admiral for Point Pelee National Park; previous record-early was March 18, 1995 (Lorraine H. Foott).

Since the species is strictly an immigrant into Ontario (it does not overwinter in the province), this may be a sign that this year could be an active one for spring immigrants.

Commas were reported in Ontario last week during one particularly warm day, along with one mourning cloak.
