Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 03/18/2016

Number: 1

This female monarch led me on a merry chase as she sipped nectar from the small blossoms of false garlic flowers (Nothoscordum bivalve). This was a warm, partly cloudy day around 80 degree F. There were almost no breezes. This lovely faded monarch went from flower to flower (tipping them over as she sipped) -- she sampled a few blackberry blossoms, but always went back to these small white flowers. I have noticed each spring what an important role they play for the early returning monarchs. Thankfully, they are abundant right now. She sipped from at least 50 as I followed her around. What a joy to see her!
